Former EVERGREY Bassist Explains His Departure
May 25, 2010Finnish bassist Jari Kainulainen has commented on his recent departure from the Swedish metal band EVERGREY in order to become a permanent member of the U.S. metal act KILLING MACHINE. His exit came after a period of turmoil within EVERGREY which also saw two other members leave the fold.
Commented Kainulainen: "Leaving EVERGREY was a hard decision to make. I loved the music and the company! But after two years, it felt like nothing was really happening with the band and there was never any concrete plans. The atmosphere in the band was good, but I would like to play live more than what they were actually doing."
Regarding his decision to join KILLING MACHINE, Kainulainen said: "Peter [Scheithauer; KILLING MACHINE guitarist] made contact some time ago and told me about KILLING MACHINE and their future plans and he gave me a few samples of their music. Let's just say it's straight-out metal and I loved it! And then it was decision-making time, so I ended up leaving EVERGREY and join[ing] KILLING MACHINE.
"I'm really looking forward to getting on the road with the guys. What's more is I get to play with a drummer who gives the Duracell bunny nightmares!"
KILLING MACHINE is:
Csaba Zvekan - Vocals
Peter Scheithauer (TEMPLE OF BRUTALITY, BELLADONNA) - Guitar
Jari Kainulainen (EVERGREY, STRATOVARIUS) - Bass
Jon Dette (TESTAMENT, SLAYER) - Drums
Six new KILLING MACHINE songs — "Skull and Bone", "Hell Raiser", "Free Nation", "Black Sun", "Nailed To The Cross" and "Morning Star" — can be heard at the band's MySpace page.
The band is in the process of securing a new record deal with a view to a release towards the end of the year.
KILLING MACHINE has released two albums, the self-titled effort in 2000 via Candlelight Records and the critically acclaimed "Metalmorphis" in 2006, via Mausoleum Records. The two LPs featured a multitude of musicians, including David Ellefson (MEGADETH),Stet Howland (W.A.S.P.) and Mike Vescera (OBSESSION, LOUDNESS)
Unashamedly wearing their heavy metal roots on their leather-studded sleeves, KILLING MACHINE "combine the classic metal feel of the past with the fresh aggression of the present," according to a press release. "Thunderous bass lines, pounding drums and explosive riffs blend with distinct heavy, melodic vocals to create driving and memorable songs."
